FAQ's

What is Tae Kwon Do?
Martial Arts developed in Asia centuries ago as a form of self-defense. Karate originated in Japan, Kun Fu in China and Tae Kwon Do developed in Korea. Tae Kwon Do emphasizes kicks more than other forms, making it ideal for those with less strength since the legs have a greater reach and are stronger than the arms. It is excellent for physical conditioning.

At what age can my child start?
We have classes for children as young as 3-years-old. Tae Kwon Do training is great for helping our youngest students develop motor skills and concentration, as well as self-esteem, confidence, respect, physical fitness and discipline.

Do you offer adult classes?
Yes. Anyone 18 years of age or older can take classes. The training is the same for most ages. Age is never a barrier in Martial Arts. In fact, adults can get just as much benefit as children and teens. It’s also a fun way to spend quality time with children and strengthen family bonds.

Why should I choose Master Velazquez Tae Kwon Do?
At MVTKD you learn directly from Master Velazquez who is always on the floor during classes. In addition, our other instructors are all accredited, Black Belt trained to make classes safe, fun and educational. We are also an elite school, having won several State and National Championships and have been named a Top 10 school in the nation twice.

Doesn’t TKD increase aggressiveness?
Absolutely not. One of the first lessons a Martial Artist learns is to never misuse his or her skills. Being physically and mentally strong does not allow one to be a bully or hurt someone else. We expect our students to be humble, courteous, respectful and careful about where and when they practice their skills.

How many classes may I attend a week?
You can take as many classes as you want. MVTKD is open 6 days a week (Mon-Sat) and students are encouraged to train as often as they like in their class rank. Ideally, we recommend as least 2 classes per week in order to learn the material and advance to the next rank.

May I watch a class?
Anyone may view a class. Parents are especially encouraged to come watch classes, which serves as a major support for their children and helps students stay motivated.

How long does it take to earn a Black Belt?
Everyone’s journey is unique so there is no fast rule on how long it takes to achieve ultimate success. On average, the journey takes 3-4 years.
